On September 30, 2009 at the Fishtank Performance Studio in downtown Kansas City we held our first City Wide Show and Tell as part of the Paul Shortt Invitational Performances. We had 15 people bring something to share, and we got video of 12 of them.
The Show and Tellers all brought something different, from trash, to a guitar, from human ashes, to cell phones, everyone brought something and shared a story that gave us insight into who they are and there experiences. Often the stories where funny reflecting the humor of everyday life. One participant even destroyed his object on stage.
Show and Tell is not about being showy, but revealing artifacts that carry stories. It's about the tell, or rather tale, that connects it to human experience. Giving insight into the different lives we all lead while reminding us that when it comes down to it that were all the same, with just a little different flare.
